I have a 21' wellcraft with light oxidation. I've already got marine 31 product along with some cutting and polishing wool pads to use with the dewalt dwp849x. Which backing plate do you recommend as I honestly completely over looked that? Also, a backing plate for 6.5" ccs pads? I intend to start a thread on here to show the progress although the hull it white it should be a noticeable improvement.

Thanks!
Brian

Hi Brian,

Welcome to Marine31Online! :welcome:

As to your questions....

I need to know the size of the wool pads to recommend a backing plate. That said, it's either going to be a 7" or a 6" and here's the links.

These are both top notch in quality.

7" Flexible Backing Plate by Lake Country

6" Flexible backing pate by Lake Country

The 6" will work with the 6.5" CCS pads.

For the wool I had gotten 2 8.5" pads one cutting and one polishing then 1 7.5" polishing/buffing pad. Will the 7.5" pad work with the 7" backing plate? I see the 8.5 will be fine.

Let me double check but I think the answer is "no". You'll want and need a 6" backing plate for 7" and 7.5" pads.

Looks like I fat fingered it...but I believe you know what I meant ;-)

Been working on the hull as of lately and plan to share some pictures shortly. I'm quite pleased with the marine 31 products up to this point. I did however try an area on the cap and it did not cut thru the oxidation as it did on the hull. I may have some questions on that shortly. I'm thinking of doing a quick wetsand followed by the wool cutting pad paired with the marine 31 heavy cutting compound on the rotary. Thoughts on that?

That will work. Just try to finish out with the highest grit level sanding paper or machine disc possible to make the buffing faster and easier.
